There have been several influences in my life that have helped to shape the person that I have become. My parents, my sibling, my husband, my children, my friends, my teachers, my co-workers….pretty much anyone that I have met has left a bit of themselves within me.
It’s been my great fortune to have found my career path within the workplace wellness field. Over the years, I’ve honed my knowledge through experience in school, work, and the community. At my first professional career interview, the question that was asked was “please give your definition of wellness.” Academically, I could have indicated the various aspects of wellness and bucketed them accordingly, but I didn’t feel that would truly be my definition. To me, wellness is a personal philosophy of how I will live my life and positively affect my wellbeing. It leads me to find activities and relationships that align with my path in life. And how incredibly grateful I am to share with, learn from, and grow because of each of those interactions, so that today I find myself alongside a fantastic team of people working toward building wellbeing into the way communities grow and do business.
Growth is such an important aspect of personal health and wellbeing. Not just the physical development from infant to adulthood, but the unhurried learning and changing in the many aspects of our lives. I draw much inspiration from nature, especially trees. As I walk past the trees, I imagine that they are providing the following advice, as adapted from words written by Ilan Shamir:
Stand tall and proud
Sink your roots into the earth
Be content with your natural beauty
Drink plenty of water
Enjoy the view!
I am looking forward to meeting you and your teams and contributing to the great work of The Wellbeing Partners.
