Metro Region Community Health Improvement Plan

The 2023-2025 Metro Region CHIP

A total of 3,510 community members and organizations contributed insights to the 2023-2025 Metro Region Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) process to address mental health. Many gave input via surveys, focus groups, and listening sessions. The report is a culmination of all that we learned and outlines a regional commitment to prioritizing mental health.

Four strategic priorities were first identified by the community in the 2020-2022 Metro Region CHIP, and the community reaffirmed and ranked the priorities in November/December 2022 from 1 (most important) to 4 (least important):

  1. Connect people to increased social supports
  2. Reduce stigma of mental health and substance use disorders
  3. Increase connections to mental health and preventive resources
  4. Understanding trauma

The 2020-2022 Metro Region CHIP

More than 3,500 community members and organizations were involved in the first-ever Metro Region Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP) process to prioritize mental health. The CHIP report, released in April 2021, which can be accessed here, outlined a commitment to improve mental health across the region using these shared strategies:

  • Reduce stigma of mental health and substance use disorders
  • Increase connections to mental health and preventive resources
  • Connect people to increased social supports
  • Reduce trauma

In March 2022, we published an update of the Metro Region CHIP, to share new information and celebrate the progress we’ve made toward these priorities. New data is now available via the 2021 Community Health Assessment (CHA) and provides formal evaluation of the Region’s Mental Health Stigma Reduction Campaign.

We invite you – the community – to join in this collective work:

  1. Check out the March 2022 Update to the Metro Region CHIP.
  2. Read, submit, and share stories about why mental health is important at https://whatmakesus.com/WhatMakesUs gathers and shares testimonials of people living with mental health conditions and their allies to reduce stigma.
