Event Overview

Trek Up the Tower is the region’s leading vertical stair climb. A community event presented by The Wellbeing Partners, Trek Up the Tower raises money to support The Wellbeing Partners’ mission to build wellbeing into the way our communities and organizations grow through advocacy, collaboration, and education.

Participants race to the top of First National Tower in downtown Omaha in this competitive, yet fun event. Trek is ideal for all fitness levels and attracts everyone from elite athletes who race to the top, to participants who are looking to accomplish a personal goal as they climb the stairs slow and steady.

Event Overview

Does Trek support a charitable cause?

Yes. Trek Up the Tower supports The Wellbeing Partners, a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization dedicated to building wellbeing into the way our communities and organizations grow through advocacy, collaboration, and education. Registration fees help cover the cost of the event and support The Wellbeing Partners mission. A portion of the entry fee is tax deductible.

What are vertical stair climbs?

Held across the globe, vertical stair climbs are rising in popularity. Like Trek Up the Tower, many take place within a skyscraper; some are held outdoors in stadiums and even up ski slopes. They are a creative way to test your endurance and participate in a community wellness event.

How tall is the Tower?

The First National Tower consists of 40 floors and 870 steps. The tower extends 633 feet into the sky and is the tallest building between Denver and Chicago.

Are there sponsorship opportunities?

What is the cost to participate?

Registration will open on October 24, 2024. The cost depends on which registration option you choose.

  • Vertical Mega Mile = $160.00
  • Individual Trek = $75.00
  • Stroll Through Treklantis Pass = $40.00

Is this an Individual or Team Event?

Both. Corporate and community teams are encouraged, but all participants will register individually. When registering, those who want to join a team should provide the following details on the registration form.

  • Company or Organization Name (for team registration) 
  • Team Name 
  • Team Captain Name 
  • Team Captain Email Address 

What is the Vertical Mega Mile Challenge?

This category is for Trekkers looking for the ultimate challenge. Participants will complete the tower 11 times, which equates to 440 floors, 9,570 steps, or over one mile!

Registration

How do I register?

To register, visit https://Trek2025.givesmart.com on or after October 24, 2024.

  • Choose your preferred registration option:  
    • Vertical Mega Mile – Trek over a mile by climbing the 40 floors of the First National Tower a total of 11 times!
    • Individual Trek – Climb the 40 floors of the First National Tower
    • Stroll Through Treklantis Pass – Enjoy a leisurely stroll through Treklantis on the indoor walking path.
  • Browse and select your desired tentative start time
    • Please note that start times are tentative and not guaranteed. Arriving 30-45 minutes before your tentative start time for check-in is recommended.
  • Enter the number of tickets you wish to purchase in the box to the right of your preferred time, then scroll down toward the bottom of the page and click Next.
  • Fill in the purchaser information and click Save and Continue at the bottom of the page.
  • Enter attendee information for those participating in the event. If you are registering for yourself, check the Same as purchaser box to autofill your information. Complete the remaining attendee details. If you are joining a team, please provide the following details on the registration form:
    • Company or Organization Name
    • Team Name
    • Team Captain Name
    • Team Captain Email Address
  • Scroll down and click Next.
  • Complete your payment information and click the Pay button at the botton of the page.

Is there a minimum age?

New in 2025, participation and volunteering are open to anyone 16 or older. All participants must sign a release waiver (anyone under 19 requires a parent or guardian’s signature). Parents or guardians planning to accompany minors ages 16-18 will be required to purchase a Stroll Through Treklantis pass or Individual Trek registration to enter the event area.

Is this event open to the public or just The Wellbeing Partners’ members?

Trek Up the Tower is open to the everybody and has options for all abilities!

Are refunds available if I need to cancel?

There are no refunds for this event.

Can companies cover a portion of the registration fees?

Absolutely! Financially incentivizing your employees to participate is a great way to grow your team and show your support for community wellness. Request your Discount Code by emailing us at info@thewellbeingpartners.org. You can choose to cover a portion of the registration fee or the entire amount.

How do I register with a discount code?

If your company or organization has provided you with a code to cover a portion of your registration, you will enter that code into the Discount Code Field on the final payment information page before clicking the Pay button. You will see wording in blue that says enter a discount code here. Click on that and enter your code. If you have trouble with it or need further assistance, please email our team at info@thewellbeingpartners.org.

Can we make the Trek more than once?

Multiple climbs are available as part of the Vertical Mega Mile option. You are able to climb the tower a total of 11 times with the Vertical Mega Mile registration.

Teams

How do I register as a team captain?

If you are registering to participate, you will register the same as everyone. See How do I register? FAQ above.

There is not a separate team captain registration this year.

How do I build my team?

Congrats on wanting to form a team! Email us at info@thewellbeingpartners.org and let us know that you wish to form a team. Our event coordinator will email you information that you can use to recruit your team. This year, the team with the most participants will win a prize!

How can I see who is registered on my team?

Once you have emailed us at info@thewellbeingpartners.org and let us know that you wish to form a team, you will have access to our event coordinator. You are welcome to email her directly or email us at info@thewellbeingpartners.org and ask for a list of who has registered for your team.

Training

Can we practice at the Tower prior to the event?

No, unfortunately we cannot allow participants to use the stairs in the tower before the day of the event.

Is there a recommended training regimen?

Yes. Please view the training program created in partnership with the YMCA. Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced programs are available at https://thewellbeingpartners.org/training/.

Where do I check in for the event?

Participant Check-In will be located in the Winter Garden area of the First National Tower located at 16th and Dodge Street Entrance. We will upload an event map soon.

Is gear check available?

A Gear-Check station will be available to all participants where they can store their personal belongings and pick them up after completion of the event and activities. Bags, backpacks, and suitcases are not allowed; a gear check bag will be provided for items such as coats, shoes, keys, phones, etc. Any unattended items will be confiscated and discarded.

What parking is available?

Parking expenses are the responsibility of the participant and will not be reimbursed. Visit Park Omaha to see available parking near the Tower.

Is medical/ First Aid available?

Yes, emergency response teams will be located on various floors throughout the tower.

May I have my phone or use headphones in the stairwell?

No. Loose devices, electronics, headphones, and earbuds are notallowed in the stairwell for safety reasons.

Are there water stations available?

Yes, water stations will be set up on various floors throughout the tower. Participants may also step off to the side and rest if needed.

Can family and friends attend as spectators?

Trek Up the Tower is not a spectator event. Family and friends will not have access to the event area due to event logistics and space requirements. If they want to be part of the event, but do not wish to climb the stairs, we encourage purchasing the new Stroll Through Treklantis Pass that will allow them entrance into the event area, the indoor walking path, and the new Treasure Cove area with wellness activities.

How will we get down?

Participants will use the elevators to return to the ground floor. Participants will not be allowed to use the stairs to descend.

Do we have a chance to look around once at the top?

Yes, a few minutes will be given to each participant once they reach the top to look out the windows.

Is there an event map available?

Yes, we will post an event map as soon as it is available that will include important directions regarding the day of the event. This map will also be sent out to all registered participants.
